I started working for a fundraising organization on behalf of the non-profit Plan International, a development organization working in third world countries. I would hear the horror stories of children all over the world, most of them younger than ten. I began to reflect on my own experiences and realized that during a traumatic experience I felt as if no other problems were greater than mine. I almost gave up, but these children fought and continue to fight for their lives. I want to take all of my theater experience and my own life challenges and reach out to those who are on the verge of giving up. After college I aspire to open my own nonprofit, working with teenagers through theatrical psychology.

“My history and my hardships will give me the strength to be my own person and understand that I am not any less important, less intelligent, or less capable than anyone with a more privileged past. I will take what I have and make the best of it – because there is no “silver spoon” or “ideal” family that makes people truly successful, only the people themselves.” – Alexander Jones
